How to enable
Always on. Your first location is created during workspace setup.

A location is a jurisdiction, such as your office in Germany or your remote team in the US. Because labor law sets leave rules per country, almost every leave rule in openbranchhq hangs off a location rather than off the whole company.

How it works

  • Country and timezone. Each location is identified by its country and has a timezone for the people assigned to it.
  • Leave year. You pick the month the leave year starts (January by default). Annual grants, carryover and the balance year shown to employees all follow the start month of the employee's location.
  • Holidays. Each location has its own public holiday calendar. Holidays on a person's location don't count against their balance when they book time off.
  • Policies. Leave policies are set per location. If a location has no policy for a leave type, the people assigned to it have no entitlement for that type.
  • Assigning people. Every employee belongs to one location. A person without a location gets no entitlements until you assign one.
  • Moving someone. When you change an employee's location, their leave year is prorated across the move. They keep the share earned at the old location and start a prorated grant at the new one.

Good to know

  • The Free plan allows 1 location. Pro and Enterprise have no limit.
  • Deleting a location also deletes its leave policies and holidays. The people assigned to it are left without a location until you reassign them.
