- Always on.
A leave type is a kind of time off people can request: annual leave, sick leave, parental leave. It sets how the leave is measured and who can book it when. How much of it people get comes from a leave policy.
How it works
- Unit. Each type is counted in days or hours. Balances are always kept in hours; a day-based type shows them as days of 8 hours.
- Rules. All are off by default:
- Allow negative balance: people can book more than they have. A policy can limit how far below zero they can go.
- Hidden: left out of the request form for employees. Owners, admins and HR can still see it and book it.
- Auto-approve: requests are approved the moment they're submitted, with no approver involved.
- Allow during probation: can be booked before the employee's probation ends. Without it, leave that starts during probation is refused.
- Color. How the type appears on calendars and timelines.
- A type grants leave only where a policy covers it. If an employee's location has no policy for the type, they have no entitlement to it.
Good to know
- Free includes up to 3 active leave types. Archived types don't count, so archiving one frees a slot.
- Archiving takes a type off request forms and stops new entitlements and carryover for it. Past requests and balances keep their history, and you can unarchive it at any time.
- A blackout period set to need approval overrides auto-approve, so someone still signs off.
